The Mercedes-Benz S-Class range will grow to be available in four different body styles following the launch of the all-new luxury limousine next year.According to UK publication Car Magazine, the standard wheelbase S-Class will go on sale in 2012, followed by the long
wheelbase variant and the coupe in 2013, and finally a four-seater convertible in 2014. The S-Class Coupe will replace the Mercedes-Benz CL.
Historically renowned for its advanced technology features, the new S-Class is set to take ride comfort to another level thanks to its innovative Magic Body Control (MBC) functionality. MBC uses two small cameras to scan the road surface for imperfections and irregularities and makes setup changes within milliseconds to smooth out the ride.
Another feature to be pulled out of the hat is Magic Light Control: a full LED setup that adjusts automatically to changes in weather, speed and steering position.
The new S-Class will also get a revised COMAND infotainment system with a large TFT LCD display to be placed closer to the driver’s line of sight.
As expected, a plethora of petrol and diesel powertrains – from four cylinders to 12, and from 150kW to 485kW – will be available, as well as a combination of mild hybrid, full hybrid and plug-in hybrid setups as the vehicle progresses in its lifecycle.
An all-new nine-speed automatic transmission is also scheduled for the new S-Class by 2014.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class continues to be one of the most popular cars in the luxury large segment. It is fighting a classic sales battle with its German rivals so far this year, with the Audi A8 on 54, the BMW 7 Series on 53 and the S-Class on 52.
