A fuel economic car is what we need, and that is exactly what we get! Hyundai’s redesigned 40 mpg 2012 Accent, which was unveiled on the first day of the New York Auto Show, claims to outclass all other cars in its class in terms of fuel economy.
The new Accent’s body design reminds us of the Elantra in ways more than one, save for the stylish fog lamps (optional) in the front. Hyundai has given a lot of consideration for passenger comfort, which is why we get 21.2 cubic feet of volume behind the second row, which the company claims is the best in its class. Fold the seats forward and you 47.5 cubic feet of maximum volume! For your luggage, there is 13.7 cubic feet of cargo volume. The options package for the Accent includes iPod/USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls.
Under the hood, the Hyundai Accent carries a new direct-injection 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine which will pair up with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The engine manages to churn out 138 horsepower and 123 pounds-feet of torque. Both the automatic and manual transmission versions achieve the 30/40 mpg rating without much of a strain. Hyundai has even gone up to add a driver-selectable Eco button which has the capability to modify the drivetrain response in order to improve real-world mileage up to 7%.
On the occasion of the unveiling at the Auto Show, Hyundai also announced the introduction of its ‘assurance’ incentive aimed at customers who trade in a car for a new vehicle. Further, the company has also assured a trade-in value for cars bought for a period ranging between 24 to 38 months. This program assures customers of value for Hyundai vehicles if they are traded in after two to four years of use. The program will kick-off from May 1, 2011 onwards for all new vehicles purchased, at no additional cost to customers.
The 2012 Hyundai Accent will be available in the sedan and four-door hatchback configurations starting this summer. Pricing will range from $12,445 to $17,000 for the fully loaded version.
