Cadillac Preparing Rear-Drive Flagship Above XTS

Although the Cadillac XTS sedan is an elegant and attractive looking sedan that should meet the needs of 95 percent of the brand’s customer base, Cadillac is still interested in a flagship vehicle built on a bespoke rear-drive platform, since executives feel that the front-drive underpinings of the XTS are not enough to compete with European luxury brands.

The platform, dubbed “Omega”, would be able to handle 6 or 8 cylinder powerplants, as well as all-wheel drive and hybrid systems. Interestingly, a diesel would not be part of the plan, despite their popularity in Europe, where Cadillac is looking to grow sales. Cadillac is also rumored to be looking at a super-premium sedan to rival brands like Rolls Royce, but this seems about as likely as a new Buick Grand National being built off the Regal platform.
