Nissan Micra losing 4-cylinder engine

The Japanese based automaker Nissan will drop the four-cylinder engine on the Micra in Australia for the 2013 model year.

According to the car manufacturer, all versions of the Nissan Micra in Australia, in the 2013 model year, will be powered by the 1.2 liter three-cylinder petrol engine, producing a total output of 56 kW and 100 Nm of torque. The loss in power will also mean an improved fuel consumption and, when equipped with the five-speed automatic transmission, the Micra will burn just 5.9 liters of fuel every 100 km, compared to the 6.5 liter / 100 km with the 1.5 liter engine.
With the four-speed automatic transmission, the fuel consumption in the new 1.2 liter 2013 Micra will stay at 6.5 liters / 100 km. Despite the four-cylinder unit has been dropped from the 2013 lineup in the Micra, Nissan isn’t cutting the price of the model in Australia and, in fact, the pricing will remain unchanged for the 2013 model year.

Micra ST Automatic – AUD14,990
Micra ST-L Manual – AUD15,490

Mitsubishi recalls near 15,000 electric cars

Mitsubishi is to recall about 14,700 of its electric vehicles, due to problems with the braking system.
According to Reuters, the recall affects models of i-MiEV car and its Citroen C-Zero, Peugeot iON and Minicab i-MiEV variants.
It’s about half of all the models yet produced, since they were launched in 2009.
Cars in both the brand’s native Japan and Europe will be requested to return for a fix, which will correct a potential problem with the electric pump that affects braking performance. The owners of around 3,400 i-MiEV city cars and 2,400 Minicab i-MiEVs in Japan will be invited to take their model to a local dealer for inspection and free repair.
In Europe, around 8,900 i-MiEVs will also be recalled, some of which will have been sold as Peugeot iON and Citroen C-Zero models, although Mitsubishi declines to say how many.
While recalls are common, when new alternative fuel cars are involved, it is much more likely to catch media attention.
But owners of electric Mitsubishis shouldn’t worry, no deaths or injuries have been reported as a result of the problem and there is no risk of fire, an unnamed Mitsubishi spokesman has said.
Pump problem
An improperly shaped or damaged electric pump, which is designed to send air to the brake booster, may not work properly and causing the car to take longer to come to halt.
The brake booster is intended to multiple the force from the driver’s foot and make braking easier.
Owners of affected models will be invited to their local dealer for a repair, which will take around half an hour.
Sadly, this recall is one of the largest we’ve yet seen for electric vehicles, eclipsing a recall made by GM for around 8,000 Volt plug-in cars just last year.
Mitsubishi Motor has been in hot water over its handling of recalls, just last month, an inspection by Japan’s Transport Ministry concluded that the carmaker inappropriately reported recalls involving its small cars.
Reuters even suggests that an insider’s tip made in 2000, revealed that the firm had been hiding customer complaints illegally for over two decades.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

The new generation of the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray will get a starting price similar to the one of the outgoing model.

In a recent interview with Ward’s Auto, the General Motors performance cars marketing manager, John Fitzpatrick, has spoken about the price of the new Corvette generation. According to the GM official, the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette will have a similar price to the one of the 2013 Corvette.
“If you can afford the 2013 Corvette, you can afford the 2014”, as Fitzpatrick told Ward’s Auto.
With the cheapest version of the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette coming at just over 50,000 USD, the new generation of the sports car will get a similar starting price. Additional details on the Chevy Corvette’s new generation are limited for the moment, but as a quick reminder, the model has been unveiled in Detroit last week. Power to the new Corvette is provided by the 6.2 liter LT1 V8 engine, with continuously variable valve timing (CVVT) and direct injection, which is producing a total output of 450 BHP and it has a peak torque of 609 Nm (450 lb-ft). The sports car can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds and it can return 26+ mpg on the highway.
