2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

The new generation of the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray will get a starting price similar to the one of the outgoing model.

In a recent interview with Ward’s Auto, the General Motors performance cars marketing manager, John Fitzpatrick, has spoken about the price of the new Corvette generation. According to the GM official, the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette will have a similar price to the one of the 2013 Corvette.
“If you can afford the 2013 Corvette, you can afford the 2014”, as Fitzpatrick told Ward’s Auto.
With the cheapest version of the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette coming at just over 50,000 USD, the new generation of the sports car will get a similar starting price. Additional details on the Chevy Corvette’s new generation are limited for the moment, but as a quick reminder, the model has been unveiled in Detroit last week. Power to the new Corvette is provided by the 6.2 liter LT1 V8 engine, with continuously variable valve timing (CVVT) and direct injection, which is producing a total output of 450 BHP and it has a peak torque of 609 Nm (450 lb-ft). The sports car can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds and it can return 26+ mpg on the highway.

2014 Chevrolet Silverado Configurator

A slick, new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado configurator has gone live on Chevrolet’s consumer site, giving potential truck customers everywhere a way to visualize how their truck will look by customizing wheels, colors, body styles, and trims. Though the 2014 Silverado configurator still lacks pricing, we have little doubt Chevrolet will keep it competitive with competitors like the 2013 Ford F-150 and refreshed 2013 Ram 1500.

Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 takes aim at fastest Ford Mustang

Chevrolet just unveiled the most powerful Camaro and the fastest Corvette it's ever built in demonstrations at its Michigan proving track. Fast? You betcha.
The 580-horsepower supercharged Camaro ZL1 aims "right between the eyes" at Ford's 550-horsepower Mustang Shelby GT 500, chief engineer Al Oppenheiser said. You'll be able to get one in the first quarter of 2012.
Meanwhile, the 2012 Corvette used "barely street-legal" new Michelin performance tires to cut a stunning 7.seconds off the car's lap time at Germany's legendary Nurburgring racetrack, Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter said.
Neither car will sell in large numbers, but they should generate lots of profit from buyers who want the newest, fastest and best. And the hyper-fast sports cars polish Chevy's performance credentials at the same time the brand is boosting its reputation for fuel economy with cars like the upcoming subcompact Sonic, the Volt electric, and the 42-mpg Cruze Eco compact.
The high-performance Camaro ZL1 is about more than the brute power of its 6.2-liter V-8. It comes track-ready with features like a six-speed tap-shift automatic transmission, head-up display, magnetic ride control, standard oil, transmission and differential coolers and track-tuned stability control led Chevrolet to draw comparisons to exotic cars like the $196,800 Audi R8 GT V10.
And Chevy touted that its Camaro on steroids has more horsepower than a Ferrari 458, more torque (556 lbs.-ft.) than an Aston Martin DB9 V12 and a better power-to-weight ratio than a Porsche 911 Carrera GTS.
Take that, Mustang lovers.
The Corvette's Michelin Pilot Sport Cup run-flat tires have a unique tread pattern, with the outer third of the tire surface very nearly slick, like the fastest racing tires. The tires cut a Corvette ZR1's Nurburgring lap time to 7 minutes and 19 seconds.

GM Recalls 6,800 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon Pickups

General Motors has issued a recall for some of the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks due to a fault in the transmission shift lever. Around 6800 vehicles of the 2011 model year of these two models are covered under this recall.
The transmission shift lever was not properly finished in the models under consideration, which leads to incorrect display of gear in the PRNDL bar. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), these models do not comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 114, “Theft Protection”, and hence, the recall.
The automatic adjustment chip is out of alignment in the models under question, which may lead to some severe consequences. Due to the faulty adjustment, the driver could shift the transmission to ‘park’ and remove the ignition key while the transmission gear may not be in ‘park’ mode actually. Thus, the driver will be unable to restart the vehicle or the vehicle may roll away, injuring someone.
GM has not received any official complaint from any owner of these models or has not received any report of a crash due to this problem. This problem was first identified in a GM assembly plant and therefore, the automaker is taking immediate action to avoid any mishaps. The faulty chip will be replaced by a new automatic transmission adjustment chip. The recall begins in mid-July and owners can contact Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC at 1-866-996-9463 for further queries.

Lighter, More Efficient Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban Coming in 2013

General Motors announced last week that it will will invest $331 million in its Arlington Assembly Plant to purchase tooling and equipment needed to ready the lines for the production of the future generation SUVs. The new vehicles from Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac will go into production in 2013 as 2014 models.

According to the Inside Line, the reinvented Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, plus their sister models, the GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade are expected to be considerably lighter, with smaller, more efficient engines.

The automotive giant promises to do this without compromising the functionality that customers have come to expect from full-sized SUV, so we expect to see new, more efficient turbocharged diesel engines being introduced. It’s great that they will be lighter and will burn more fuel, but torque diesels will be essential in order to keep towing and load bearing capacity the wait it is. Seven or eight-speed gearboxes could also play a part.

This is the first major overhaul of the Arlington operations since 2001. The investment is part of the huge expansion program GM engaged in soon after it filed for bankruptcy in 2009, which also includes plants in Detroit, Flint, Toledo and Bowling Green. A total of $2 billion have been promised this year alone for the upgrading of no less than 17 US facilities.

“This investment will allow us to continue building award-winning full-size SUVs that offer better fuel efficiency than ever before without sacrificing the features and functionality they’ve come to expect,” GM Manufacturing Manager Larry Zahner said Thursday. “We remain committed to providing customers the utility and capability of our world-class full-size SUVs.”
